Steven Gerrard has hinted Allan McGregor is in line for a fresh deal at Rangers without any need thrash out a new contract.
The Ibrox admits he would love to keep the 36-year-old at the club with the former Scotland international's current deal expiring in the summer of 2020.
But Gerrard , with a glint in his eye, admits the veteran shot stopper looks set to remain in Govan by reaching an appearances threshold that would kick in an extended Rangers stay.
And the 39-year-old admits McGregor might not be the only player who could be about to benefit from a clause in their contract.
The Rangers boss waxed lyrical about the keeper when asked his long-term situation.
The Ibrox boss said: "I think that's a question you should ask Allan McGregor.
"He's the one who goes out and does the work, he'll tell you how his body is feeling.
"But, on the eye, looking at him on a daily basis he looks in good shape. He looks in good shape and is enjoying his football.
"If that continues then of course we would want him around for longer than (the end of his contract).
"But there also might be something in the contract if he plays a certain amount of games then something might kick in anyway."
Gerrard was then asked if McGregor had intimated he was searching for a new deal.
He added: "No, but I haven't had anything that suggests he wants to leave or wants to retire.
"Only he knows what's in his contract but most of (the players) push for this sort of thing in their contracts."
