Steven Gerrard's "guarantee" in response to Liverpool noise after Aston Villa move

Steven Gerrard insists he is "all in" with Aston Villa after being quizzed on his upcoming return to Anfield.

The Liverpool icon has enjoyed an impressive start to his managerial career, guiding Rangers to the Scottish title last year.

That attracted the attention of Villa, who moved quickly to appoint the 41-year-old after they opted to sack Dean Smith following a run of five straight defeats.

Gerrard's first game will come when the Premier League reconvenes after the international break.

His side host Brighton on November 20 but eyes have firmly been fixed on his fifth game in charge.

Villa will head to Liverpool on December 11, which will be Gerrard's first major return since leaving as a player back in 2015.

Much has been made of the reunion with Gerrard seen as a future boss at Anfield, potentially as a successor for Jurgen Klopp.

But the Villa boss insists he can do nothing about the fanfare whilst his focus his solely on doing a number on his former team.

"I don't think me or anyone else will be able to control the noise," he told the club's website.

"For me that's not important, what is important is the chance to go to Anfield and win and try and take maximum points which is the attitude and the mentality we'll have going into every game.

"It is what it is. I want to win every game that I play in.

"Now my priority and my focus and everything I give on a daily basis will be for Aston Villa.

"One thing I can guarantee the supporters, the players and all the staff here is that, when I commit to something, I'm all in."

Villa languish near the relegation zone despite making some heavy investment in the summer.

The Midlands outfit have a rich history which includes a European Cup success back in 1982 and Gerrard admits they needed no selling.

He claimed: "Aston Villa sells itself. An iconic football club, that I know pretty well from the outside and I'm excited to get involved inside."

"The excitement levels are really, really high, I'm very hungry and very ambitious."

Rangers were understanding in sanctioning Gerrard's departure and he leaves them top of the Scottish table as they look to retain their crown.

But upon hearing about the interest the Englishman was keen to have things tied up swiftly.

"I wanted this to happen very quickly because first and foremost the opportunity was too big."
