Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa transfer wish gives Newcastle potential signing headache

Newcastle United are facing a potential signing headache as they chase down further attacking options heading into the 22/23 campaign. With Hugo Ekitike touted as one possible addition, Chelsea youngster Armando Broja is another who is seemingly catching the eye.

West Ham have also enquired regarding the Albanian forward, with Michail Antonio's goals drying up towards the end of last season. Steven Gerrard has however added further fuel to the potential fire claiming another Hammers target Ollie Watkins is going nowhere this summer.

The England international was also said to have been of interest for David Moyes' side leaving the Magpies as frontrunners to try and secure a deal for Broja later this year. But with Gerrard's recent comments ringing true, it seems the race is back on regarding the Blues forward.

Speaking of Watkins, Gerrard said: "He’s his own worst critic. He can over-analyse himself too much. I was the worst for that but strikers can over-analyse themselves on outcomes rather than the other things they bring to the game.

"He’s a perfectionist but sometimes he has to appreciate himself more. Strikers are all goal-obsessed. I was a big fan of his looking in from the outside before I came here. And now I’m an even bigger fan having worked with him and seen him close up. He’s got a great all-round game and he’s got a big part to play for us in the next couple of games and beyond.”

Broja's current availability is not known at present, but with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both currently ahead of the 20-year-old in the pecking order, a decision is expected to be made on his future at Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later.

Valued at around £25million and with Premier League goals to show in his first top-flight loan spell, many clubs will have seen first-hand just what the 6ft 3' forward can bring to any side looking to prise him away from Thomas Tuchel's seemingly loose grip.
