Steven Gerrard roars he's 'always Rangers' in heartfelt tribute to gutted supporters

Steven Gerrard paid a heartfelt tribute to the Rangers fans for helping him achieve historic success.

And the former Ibrox gaffer admits he hopes they will come to understand his decision to leave for Aston Villa.

Gerrard took to his personal Instagram to post an emotional farewell message after signing a three-and-a-half year deal at Villa Park.

The 41-year-old led the Light Blues to their first league title in a decade - the much-coveted 55th in the club’s history - which denied Celtic a 10th consecutive league flag.

He spent three-and-a-half years at the Ibrox helm in what was his first senior managerial role after he was previously Liverpool youth boss.

After his departure was confirmed, Gerrard wrote: “I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone associated with Glasgow Rangers, especially the fans, for the love and support you’ve all shown me during my time in Scotland.

“Winning ’55’ will always hold a special place in my heart - each and every one of you played a part in that and, believe me, there will be many more to come.

“I hope in time you can understand and accept my decisions to move on but I honestly fell in love with the club and will always follow the team.

“Once a Ranger, always a Ranger #55”
