Steven Gerrard reveals the Rangers time choice every manager is given as he roars 'we want to play football'

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insists it's a no brainer for Ibrox to have a multi-ball system in place because his side is paid to entertain.

As champions the Govan side are often heavy favourites going into games and that often results in other teams opting to slow the pace however they can when trying to grind out a result.

Some felt that was the case at home to Motherwell last weekend when the Steelmen bagged a precious point in Glasgow through Kaiyne Woolery's equaliser.

Every Premiership boss is given the option of using a multi-ball system to speed up play at the start of the season and while some managers may decide against it for those reasons, Gerrard insists breaks in play isn't what Rangers fans come to see.

He said: "I don't think you can blame officials or point fingers in their direction.

"As a club, at the beginning of the season you have a decision – do you want to use multi-ball or do you not?

"And at Rangers we decided to use multi-ball because we're all paid to watch, play or provide entertainment for the supporters.

"We want the ball on the pitch for as much as possible, we don't want it to go out for throw-ins or corners.

"We actually want to play football. If other teams decide they don't want to use multi-ball, if managers decide to jump over the ball or waste time, that's on them.

"We don't waste time, we want the ball on the pitch as much as possible and we chose multi-ball."
