Steven Gerrard reveals Rangers transfer state of play as he makes Europa League budget admission

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard admits further transfer business could be dependent on success in the Europa League.

The Ibrox boss has made clear he wants a dynamic midfielder added to his squad as he bids to stop Celtic from winning Ten In A Row.

Preston's Daniel Johnson has been targeted but every club's budget has been squeezed by the coronavirus shutdown and subsequent empty stadiums.

Rangers take on Galatasaray on Thursday as they bid to reach the Europa League group stage, and Gerrard confirmed a European windfall may be needed to bring in the player he needs.

He said: "I think I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need.

"But I also respect the board's position in the current climate and the situation that we're in.

"I do think that depending on whether we qualify or not would depend on what we try and do in the final days.

"But I think that's a question for people who are above me at the club.

"I can't really answer that question right now but I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need to keep moving forward, to make sure that we don't stand still."
