Steven Gerrard reveals Rangers transfer plan as he hints at new signing in 'coming days'

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed the club are closing in on a new signing - and hope to announce it within the next few days.

The Ibrox manager has added Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala to his squad already but wants to keep strengthening to keep his side on top.

But the Rangers boss did warn fans there won't be 'wholesale' changes to his side and insists it will be quality over quantity this summer to keep his players ticking over.

It's unclear who the signing will be with Rangers linked with various players over the course of the summer so far, but Gerrard is looking forward to getting a deal done.

He admits he loves to get the fans excited with transfers and has hinted that an announcement is on the way in the next few days.

He told RangersTV: "The recruitment lads, Ross (Wilson) and myself have worked ever so hard to identify the targets we want.

"The board and Ross know the players I want to strengthen us and make us better and give us the best chance to be successful next season.

"Hopefully we can go and deliver them. We’re really close on one piece and hopefully in the coming days we’ll have an announcement for the fans.

"I like to get them excited this time of year , they’ve been patient. There won’t be wholesale signings because the squad is strong and good. We’ve brought some good additions in six months ago so we’re looking for quality rather than quantity at this stage."

Alfredo Morelos has been heavily linked with a move away to Porto and although Daniel Candeias hinted that a deal was nearly done, Gerrard insists the Colombian will be back for the opening game of the season.

He'll have a short break after the Copa America finishes for Colombia, but Gerrard insists he'll be ready to go for match day one if he follows the plans given to him.

He added: "We all know how proud Alfredo is to represent Colombia. He’s on the other side of the world but we still have our eyes on and still making contact and making sure he’ll do the right thing.

"When he finishes in the tournament he’ll have a short break and then come and join us for the rest of pre-season and we’ll try have him ready for game one as well.

"It’s important he does the right things when he stops until he comes back because he’ll have a very short pre-season and we need Alfredo to be fit and firing for the important games coming our way."
