Steven Gerrard reveals Rangers in talks over Linfield friendly as manager itching for Northern Ireland return

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed the Ibrox club are looking into playing a friendly over in Northern Ireland.

The club's friendship with Belfast side Linfield has seen them head over to Windsor Park on occasion with the last visit coming in 2016 for Blues stalwart Jamie Mulgrew's testimonial.

With such a strong base of support in Northern Ireland, the club are looking at heading back across the Irish Sea to take on a team on the verge of their own 55th title.

However, finding a suitable date could be difficult with Windsor Park set to be upgraded in time for the UEFA Super Cup in mid-August.

Rangers meanwhile already have a glamour friendly arranged with Arsenal at Ibrox on July 17.

Speaking at a 'Team Talk' mental health initiative from sponsors 32 Red and the Rangers Charity Foundation, Gerrard said: "Every time I have been over to Northern Ireland from a personal point of view when I am representing England, I always get a fantastic welcome.

"I am really looking forward to coming back over once life is back to normality and it would be great if we could get the team over there at some point.

"It is something that we are discussing at the moment."
