Steven Gerrard reveals his new Rangers experience as he makes Motherwell 'park the bus' claim

Beaming Steven Gerrard has praised his 'relentless' side after Rangers' 3-1 comeback win over Motherwell.

The Ibrox club fell behind to a Callum Lang strike six minutes into the match, but a Kemar Roofe brace and a Cedric Itten header completed a dramatic turnaround.

Rangers stretched their lead at the top of the Premiership to 16 points and also managed to get back to winning ways following their disappointing exit of the Betfred Cup midweek.

Gerrard is 'proud' of the character his side showed after going a goal behind and was delighted with the impact of subs Joe Aribo, Ianis Hagi and Itten.

He told Rangers TV: "Our defending was poor for the first goal, but really proud and pleased to how we reacted to going a goal down.

"We kept asking questions all afternoon, we were relentless in finding our way back into the game. It was important players stuck to their roles, but not just that, improve your role individually. Eventually, our success came.

"It was about staying calm at half time and and making the right subs at the right time. I thought they were really big for us today. That's nothing against the players who left the pitch, they've done their best to help us try and get back in the game.

"But sometimes you need your subs to make an impact. I thought Itten was outstanding, Hagi and Aribo too. I am really pleased with the character we have shown over the 90 minutes."

Lang's early strike meant Motherwell had something to hold onto and sat in as Rangers piled on the pressure to try and get back in the game.

The home side had over 80% possession and Gerrard believes the visitors 'parked the bus' after going ahead.

The Steelmen often had two blocks of five in front of Rangers and the Ibrox manager insists it's the first time he's witnessed that as a coach.

He added: "It was a new experience today. In my two and half years of coaching, I've never played a five and a five in terms of a block, I think when the scored a goal, they just wanted to park the bus, it's as simple as that.

"It was all about us, we had all the ball and asking all the questions. We were going from one side of the pitch to the other, over round and through. I am so pleased the boys stayed on the gas, it was only going to be a matter of time. If we got one, we knew it would have a mental affect on Motherwell and it did."
