Steven Gerrard reveals full Aston Villa backroom team as former Rangers boss makes decision over Austin MacPhee

New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has retained the services of set-piece specialist Austin MacPhee at Aston Villa.

The former interim Hearts boss established himself as a key man under Dean Smith but doubts surrounded his future once Gerrard arrived from Ibrox.

However, MacPhee - who fulfils the same specialist role with the Scotland national team - will stick around with Gerrard also keeping Neil Cutler and Aaron Danks on board.

And Villa also officially confirmed all of the Liverpool icon's trusted Rangers lieutenants have joined him with the Premier League.

A brief statement read: "Aston Villa are pleased to welcome Gary McAllister (Assistant Head Coach), Michael Beale (Assistant Head Coach), Tom Culshaw (Technical Coach), Scott Mason (Lead Analyst) and Jordan Milsom (Head of Fitness and Conditioning) to the club as part of Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff."

Gerrard faces a challenging start to his reign at the club with three of his first five games against Manchester City, Liverpool, and Leciester.
