The Ibrox boss wouldn't comment on the player, but says it would news to him if he was having a medical at the club, according to The Athletic.
Gerrard made it clear he wants a new signing before the October 5 deadline and their Europa League qualification will certainly help Rangers facilitate another addition.
The Light Blues were drawn against Benfica, Lech Poznan, and Standard Liege in Friday's draw.
And the Rangers manager insists his side will give it their best shot to come out of the tough group.
He added: "The Europa League as a whole seems to be getting stronger every season with some top teams in there.
"It is nice to get the chance to play Benfica and Lech Poznan for the first time. It is a tough group but we will give it our best shot with three other good teams."
