Steven Gerrard 'rejects' Newcastle move as Rangers boss looks to continue at Ibrox

Steven Gerrard has 'rejected' an approach from Newcastle United - according to a report.

The Rangers boss was targeted by Mike Ashley after Rafa Benitez left the club but he's knocked it back and has no interest in leaving Glasgow at this stage.

It comes just a day before Gerrard is due to face St Joseph's in the Europa League with Rangers.

Ashley wanted Gerrard to head to St James' Park but knew it would be nearly impossible to get him to agree to a move, according to the Mirror.

But it didn't stop him getting in touch with the Liverpool legend's representatives to ask the question.

It's believed that the Rangers hierarchy, including chairman Dave King, are unhappy about the approach given the continued volatile relationship between the club and Ashley.

The Sports Direct owner has been in regular battles with the club over the past few years.

He's also been hit with another blow as Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has reportedly told him he isn't interested in leaving Nice at this time.
