Steven Gerrard reflects on passing the Liverpool torch in emotional Jordan Henderson message

Emotional Steven Gerrard has saluted Premier League champion Jordan Henderson and asserted he couldn't have passed on his beloved armband to a better man.

Henderson lifted the Champions League trophy under Jurgen Klopp last year and has now led the team to a title for the first time in 30 years.

Rangers boss Gerrard spent 17 years at Anfield as a player and won every trophy available except a league title.

While Gerrard did come agonizingly close under Brendan Rodgers in 2014, it was his infamous slip against Chelsea in a crucial match that saw his side go behind before losing.

Despite that unfortunate moment, Gerrard is still considered a hero on Merseyside for both his world-class quality on the pitch and his loyalty to the club.

He left for LA Galaxy in 2015, handing over the captaincy to Geordie Henderson.

And this morning he took to social media platform Instagram to tell him how happy he was to have passed the baton on to the right man.

He said: "Couldn't have passed it on to a better person. Proud of you mate."

The message was accompanied by a heart emoji and a picture of Gerrard passing over the captains armband to his former teammate.
