Steven Gerrard Rangers exploits could land him the Liverpool job says Kop legend

Rafa Benitez believes the work Steven Gerrard is doing at Rangers could land him the Liverpool job in the future.

Earlier this week Reds boss Jurgen Klopp identified the Gers boss as his likely successor, having been impressed by his move into management.

"I think he has the potential to be a good manager," Benitez wrote in The Athletic .

"As he said in one interview, he was lucky enough to have different managers and from different countries, which is always good for your development.

"I think he can be a great manager, he is already doing well, but only time will say how good he will be."

Gerrard also has the backing of the most recent manager to win his boyhood team the Champions League , with Klopp singing his praises this week.

The German told Four Four Two: "If you ask who should follow me, I’d say Stevie.

"I help him whenever I can.

“If someone gets your job, it’s not about them, it’s about you not being good enough.

Gerrard is a legend at Anfield, making over 700 appearances and winning the Champions League in 2005.

That triumph came under the tutelage of Benitez, and the Spaniard feels his former captain has the ability to one day sit in the Liverpool dugout.
