Steven Gerrard questioning himself on Rangers key call as he rues misstep against side 'there for the taking'

Upfront Steven Gerrard reckons he may have made a Rangers misstep by naming Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala as his starting strike pair against Brondby.

The Ibrox boss could barely hide his frustration after the disjointed 1-1 draw in Copenhagen, as he needed a trio of subs to make the difference.

Ianis Hagi scored from the bench, as fellow sub Ryan Kent played a perfect pass in the closing stages for the Romanian who fired home in style.

Hagi and Kent were joined from the bench by Kemar Roofe in the 55th minute as Gerrard removed Morelos, Sakala and Scott Arfield.

And the Ibrox boss admits he's unsure whether he got his team wrong by trusting the players who starred in Sunday's 6-1 romp against Motherwell.

Speaking to BT Sport, he said: 'We were overloading in the right areas, we looked far more dangerous, I was much more pleased with the second half.

"The first half, we just haven't come to the game.

"Look, I'm questioning myself because I've probably gone with the wrong front three, either that or the front three haven't brought to the game what I expected of them.

""Once we tweaked a few things and got people on the pitch in the right areas, we kept the ball better, we could create and we actually scored a fantastic goal.

"For me, not being disrespectful to the opposition, we. need to be winning here tonight.

"I think they were there for the taking."

Rangers are in with a fighting chance of qualifying from Group A and sit on four points alongside Sparta Prague.

The pair meet on matchday five at Ibrox with the Czech side winning 1-0 on matchday two.
