Steven Gerrard provides key Ross McCrorie Rangers update as he vows to get defender firing

Steven Gerrard is hopeful a Rangers return will get Ross McCrorie back to his best for the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old defender is back from his loan spell with Portsmouth to seek treatment for his second hamstring injury of the campaign.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett tipped the Scotland U21 defender to make the most of an extended run at right-back before the latest setback.

And now Rangers boss Gerrard wants to keep a close eye on McCrorie's recovery before he heads back to Fratton Park as they push for a place in the League One playoffs.

The player has joined up with his parent club during their warm-weather training camp in Dubai as the club medics run the rule over his recovery.

Gerrard told Rangers TV: "Ross has got a hamstring injury and my experience with hamstring injuries – they have to be nursed.

"And you have to be very careful with them, especially if it's a second hamstring injury. Ross has got a second hamstring injury.

"So, with all due respect to Portsmouth, he's a Rangers player.

"And I have got every confidence in my medical team and medical staff that he will get the right rehab here.

"We can manage it when he's ready to make sure that when we send him back to Portsmouth he is a 100 per cent ready to go and play.

"That's not disrespecting their medical team. It's just that he is our player, so we want to manage him our way."
