Steven Gerrard praises NI star who makes life easy for Rangers boss

Steven Gerrard has revealed how Steven Davis "manages himself" at Rangers.

The Ibrox boss admits he needs to give the midfield veteran "very, very little" on a day-to-day basis.

And he's contrasted that approach with how he has to manage Rangers' younger players, who need extra one-on-one guidance.

Gerrard raved about Davis' application and the standards the Northern Ireland international sets for himself.

He told the High Performance Podcast: “They’re different characters, different people, humans.

"I think over time, you have to get used to them, and you have to try and get the best out of that individual, but you have to realise that one individual is completely different to another.

“Some people manage themselves.

"I’ll give you an example, Steven Davis he comes into work, his standards are the same every day. His diet, his body weight, his attitude, his energy. He manages himself, I have to give him very little, very little.

"Then, the other scale, we've got younger players who are new, they're brand new.

"They're still finding themselves, still shaping themselves as a player, as a human.

"He needs more of my time. More one on one chat, more guidance, more help, more support.

"It's getting to know what that individual needs, trying to support them in the best way you can."
