Steven Gerrard plays down Rangers Invincibles bid as he trains sights on the double

Steven Gerrard insists twenty’s plenty after telling his title-winning Rangers side to FORGET being Invincibles – and focus on lifting the Scottish Cup.

The Ibrox boss has told his players more silverware is his immediate priority despite their unbeaten league run going on the line at Parkhead this afternoon.

Champs Gers are 20 points clear of Celtic at the top of the Premiership.

But a Scottish Cup third round clash with Cove Rangers at the start of next month is now Gerrard ’s clear focus as they face the managerless Hoops.

And the Englishman admits the trophy count dwarfs any ambition of another Old Firm win and adding to their massive Premiership advantage.

Gerrard said: “The priority now, which won’t be a surprise to anyone, is the Scottish Cup.

“The main thing we can be judged on here at Rangers is success and winning trophies.

“If I had the choice, it would be to have a successful run in the Scottish Cup rather than this invincible tag or going the remainder of the season unbeaten.

“We will try it and we will use it as a motivation but the priority is the Scottish Cup right now

“If we can go from now until the end of the season unbeaten, of course it would be a wonderful achievement.

“It would be fantastic, but it’s not the priority. The priority is the next game and trying to win that game.

“It’s a tough game and a tough place to go but we’ll be ready to go there and give it what we need to give to try and win that game.

“Then we will breathe and get ready for the other split fixtures which we don’t know when they’re coming or when they’ll be.

“But once they get announced, we’ll prepare in the best way we can to remain as consistent as we can.”
