Steven Gerrard makes 'show heart' plea to government as Rangers boss urges fans to stay safe

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has called for people in power to 'show a bit of heart' as he asked fans to remain safe at the weekend.

The Ibrox manager insists he completely gets why supporters are excited for trophy day to celebrate an incredible season for their club.

He urged them to stick to the rules but he also believes the government, police and others in charge have to show a bit of understanding about where they have come from.

Gerrard was speaking after his side beat Livingston 3-0 in their penultimate game of their Premiership campaign and more Rangers fans watched on from a hill near the stadium.

And he reckons the excitement of the supporters who have had a tough decade means the powers that be need to understand the situation.

He said: “You’ve got to understand where the fans are. They adore this club, they adore the players.

“They’ve followed near and far, they’ve followed through thick and thin. They’ve been on the floor and they’ve paid extremely big levels of money, even when they can’t get in the ground to see a glimmer of the pitch or a glimmer of the players.

“So I totally understand how they’re feeling and how excited they are but for me as manager of the club, I have send a message that they need to remain safe and listen to the rules that are in place.

“But I also think people in higher places have got to show a bit of heart and understand that common sense will hopefully prevail.”
