Steven Gerrard admits he wouldn't recall Nikola Katic even if he could as it would be a 'selfish' decision.
The 24-year-old defender is currently on-loan at Croatian side Hadjuk Split as he steps up his recovery from a serious long-term injury and he can't be recalled.
Rangers have been dealt a major blow with Filip Helander ruled out for the 'foreseeable future' after sustaining an injury against St Johnstone.
It leaves the Ibrox side short at centre-back, with Jack Simpson ineligible in Europe, but Gerrard insists Katic is at the best place for his recovery.
He said: "Even if I had the opportunity to bring Niko back I wouldn’t because it would be very selfish from me.
"Niko’s at a stage where he needs to play regularly to get back to his level and I think he’s in the right place for that.
"I’m confident we’ve got the right amount of cover assuming we don’t have any more issues."
Ianis Hagi missed Rangers' weekend win over St Johnstone after testing positive for Covid-19 while on international duty with Romania.

Gerrard hopes the talented midfielder will return soon after the Scottish Government intervened to allow three Lyon players to travel to Scotland.
He said: "We’re having conversations to try and get him back as soon as possible.
"With the news of the decision the Scottish Government have made over the past 24 hours to allow players in who have been in red countries, we’ll try get Ianis back as soon as possible.
"There’s conversations going as we speak but unfortunately it’s out of my control. I don’t have a day or an exact time he’ll be here but from my point of view I need him back as soon as possible.
