Steven Gerrard makes dream come true for teenager before UK lockdown

Steven Gerrard made one teenager's dream come true by granting her wish before the UK went into lockdown.

Cara Wall was diagnosed in January with a type of soft tissue cancer that grows in active muscles of the body.

After a difficult time, the 19-year-old was granted one special wish where she could choose anything she wanted.

As a huge football fan and Liverpool FC supporter, Cara, from Shrewsbury, only had one request - to meet her icon, Steven Gerrard.

And earlier this month, Starlight Children’s Foundation granted Cara her wish.

The teen, from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, described the meeting as ‘perfect’ (Starlight Children's Foundation)

Wearing a huge grin and a Liverpool shirt, Cara's dreams came true as she met up with Reds hero Gerrard.

At the time no one realised it was to be one of the last wishes the charity would be able to grant before the country went into lockdown over Covid-19.

However, Cara enjoyed every second, describing the meeting as ‘perfect’.

She even got some coaching advice from the Liverpool legend.

On the day, Cara and Steven spoke about all things football, from who his favourite team to play for was, how he got into football, being a manager and a dad.

One of Cara’s burning questions was of course whether Liverpool FC might ever be managed by Gerrard in the future.

His reply was: "Of course one day I would love that opportunity but right now I’m happy where I am and really enjoying Jurgen Klopp leading my team to success."

Remarking on Liverpool’s iconic game against Barcelona and Trent Alexander Arnold’s perfect corner kick, Gerrard said: "I had to leave the stadium because my heart was coming out of my chest. He’s doing ever so well. He’s flying."

As Cara is a coach herself, she was also desperate to pick the manager's brain, and Steven even gave her some coaching tips and offered to send some of his session plans.

Starlight Children’s Foundation is a dedicated to preserving childhood through serious illness.

This is done by a variety of services including granting wishes for children with life-threatening conditions.
