Steven Gerrard makes decision on Rangers future after reflecting on Hearts defeat

Steven Gerrard insists he never had any doubts about his Rangers future after Saturday's William Hill Scottish Cup exit.

The Gers manager's future was subject to speculation following the 1-0 defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle when he admitted after the match that it was "the lowest I felt since I came into the job by a long way", while also saying "I just need to think".

Ahead of the home game against Hamilton on Wednesday night, Gerrard was asked if he had thought about his future and he replied: "Long term? No, no.

"I'm OK, good, ready for the next challenge which is Hamilton tomorrow.

"From the end of the game at the weekend which was bitterly disappointing, I have done a real lot of thinking to myself and shared those thoughts with people around me and I am ready to go again.

"I'm in. I've signed up to something here. I'm in, I'm all in.

"I always knew there was going to be periods like this that were tough, real setbacks.

"I think this is when the club needs me most and that is to stay strong and fight on and push and continue to try to improve this and build on the progress we have made in a lot of areas and to learn from some of the things that haven't gone so well and try to avoid them happening again."

Gerrard revealed that striker Alfredo Morelos has accepted internal club punishment after he was left out of the defeat to Hearts as a disciplinary measure after returning late from a trip to Colombia.

Morelos will be available for the Hamilton game.

Gerrard said: "He has been disciplined internally, which he has accepted and he has shown a lot of remorse for his actions, letting his team-mates down and supporters down.

"He has accepted his punishment which will stay private for obvious reasons so yes, he is available for selection."
