Steven Gerrard lays out Rangers summer roadmap as he teases announcement fans have been craving

Steven Gerrard insists Rangers have "exciting things brewing" as he told fans to expect friendly announcements.

The Ibrox side returned to non-contact training this week as the Scottish Government gave the green light for professional sport to resume behind closed doors.

Gerrard 's players are expected to step up their preparations for the new season gradually ahead of the scheduled August 1 Premiership return date.

A step up in training intensity is likely to follow before bounce games are announced over the coming weeks.

Gerrard knows supporters are desperate to know when they can watch their team in action again, and believes dates could be set sooner rather than later.

He also teased more transfer activity to come having already moved early for Ianis Hagi and Calvin Bassey.

"I think the plan for us is to get back to normality as quickly as possible,” Gerrard told Rangers TV. “We are all aware that’s what the players want – it’s what we are used to and our normal routine is to come in and train with the full group and go full contact and really make a game-tempo and match-tempo.

“In terms of the fans, we want to give them some news on friendlies that are on the horizon – we know they want to watch the team and they have missed it just like we have ourselves.

“So hopefully, in the coming days and weeks, we are going to announce some friendly matches – we have some exciting things brewing in the background.

"We are still chasing targets behind the scenes – we have numerous targets that we want to bring in to strengthen us and help us over the course of next season.

“So without giving too much away, it is exciting times to be at Rangers.”
