Steven Gerrard lays out Rangers 'priority' as he makes invincibles admission

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insists winning the Scottish Cup is the priority for his team - and not going invincible.

The Ibrox manager insists it wouldn't bother him if they didn't complete the league season unbeaten, as long as they went on to lift the Scottish Cup.

Rangers haven't lifted the trophy since 2009, when they beat a Falkirk side containing Scott Arfield 1-0 at Hampden thanks to a Nacho Novo stunner.

After clinching the league title and crashing out of Europe, the Scottish Cup is the only remaining piece of silverware left this season.

Rangers are still unbeaten in the league, though, with six games to go and Gerrard believes it would be more important to win another trophy than go without defeat.

He said: “The priority now, which won’t be a surprise to anyone, is the Scottish Cup.

“The main thing we can be judged on here at Rangers is success and winning trophies.

“If I had the choice, it would be to have a successful run in the Scottish Cup rather than this Invincible tag or going the remainder of the season unbeaten.

“We will try it and we will use it as a motivation but the priority is the Scottish Cup right now.

“If we can go from now until the end of the season unbeaten, of course it would be a wonderful achievement.

“It would be fantastic, but it’s not the priority. The priority is the next game and trying to win that match.

“It’s a tough game and a tough place to go but we’ll be ready to go there and give it what we need to give to try to win that game.

“Then we will breathe and get ready for the other split fixtures. We don’t know when they’re coming or when they’ll be.

“But once they get announced, we’ll prepare in the best way we can to remain as consistent as we can.”
