Steven Gerrard issues Rangers injury update as manager gives latest on Kemar Roofe travel dash

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard hopes to have Kemar Roofe available to face Hearts, as he issued an update on the injury situation at Ibrox.

The Premiership champions return to action after the international break as they welcome Robbie Neilson's men for a top of the table clash.

Roofe is in transit after representing Jamaica in a World Cup qualifier against Honduras, but won't take part in training on Friday.

Rangers hope to have the 28-year-old available though, as the manager issued updates on the fitness of Ryan Jack and Ryan Kent.

Gerrard said: " Kemar Roofe is in transit, we are hoping to have him available but will certainly miss today's session.

"Kent is very close and we hope to have him back training after the weekend, Jack is not too far away and will be back in a couple of weeks.

"All the International players have returned fit and healthy and having spoken to Kemar he appears all good also.

"We have a fantastic medical and sports science team who make contact with the countries and players after each game for their welfare mentally and physically as we have a duty of care.

"We want to see our players enjoy the International experience. It is important you remain elite around the games. It can add 10/12 games to an already busy schedule and thankfully we have top professionals such as Steven Davis that the young lads can watch and learn from."
