Steven Gerrard is using Rangers as they'd be no bigger than Newcastle in the Premier League - Hotline

Rangers and Celtic are preparing for another monumental night of European football.

But there's no break from the domestic fire emanating from Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final in the land of the Hotline .

Steven Gerrard at Rangers for the long haul? Celtic’s dominance coming to an end?

It was as venomous as a leader's debate and with an equal share of whataboutery too.

John Scott, Grassmoor isn’t buying Gerrard ’s insistence that Rangers aren’t a career stepping stone.

He said: “Rangers are massive. World renowned with fans in every corner of the planet.

“But give it a rest that they are not merely a stepping stone for Steven Gerrard.

“If Rangers ever get their wish to play in England they’d be no bigger than Newcastle with the odd trip to Europe and mid table when they're not fighting relegation.

“Gerrard will move on to bigger things sooner rather than later. Same as any decent player with ambition.”

Lance Little, Erskine, said: “So just because Rangers played at their optimum level against Celtic, who on the day were not at the races, they are now title contenders? Why?

“Did they win? No? Did they win at home previously v Celtic? No?

“People are getting very excited about a team who failed to win against a team who had a bad day.

“Sunday was a negative for Rangers and not a plus.”

Steve McSherry, Uddingston, said: “Rangers gave everything in the cup final and still weren’t good enough. A decent side would have punished us but thankfully we were playing Rangers. We will put the league to bed as well when we put them in their place again at Celtic Park.”

But a few gloating Celtic fans were pulled up by Light Blues supporters.

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus , said: “I have to laugh at Brian Madden talking about record-breaking Celtic. Get it into your head Brian for most of those years it was only a one team league.”

Robbie McElvey, Banavie, wasn’t impressed with the Hoops’ support’s mocking of Alfredo Morelos and his lack of goals against Celtic.

He said: “Is Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, aware that Raheem Sterling has never scored against Manchester United? Not while with Liverpool or Manchester City. He must be a rubbish striker. Wonder why he is a regular England internationalist?”

Ryan Jack has been backed by supporters and fellow professionals for his post-final tears on Sunday.

Michael Emonds, Northampton emailed: “Reading the sob stories of sportsmen in the Daily Record reminded me of the great Bobby Charlton, a man who shed many a tear after a match.

“He once said I’ve never cried in defeat I only ever shed tears of joy when I win.”

Meanwhile Kilmarnock fan James McClean, Isle of Bute, is far from impressed with Angelo Alessio after the recent slump at Rugby Park.

He said: “We have papered over the cracks the last six weeks. There is unrest again at Rugby Park according to my mole, you could see it against Livingston.

“The players just gave up, Alessio has lost the dressing room, one win in seven is not good enough Mr Bowie, please fix it out before there is a revolt. Believe me it is coming.”

Finally there was some backing for Everton caretaker Duncan Ferguson to help get the Toffees out of a sticky situation and land himself the job full time.

John Davidson, Armadale, said: “Well done to Big Dunc.

"Surely that result against Chelsea must put him in contention to keep the reigns until the end of the season, if not longer, so we can finally get another Scottish manager in the EPL.”
