Steven Gerrard in Rangers throwback celebration as roaring boss laps up huge Hibs victory

Steven Gerrard's post-match celebrations against Hibs harked back to the roaring gaffer of old after his side ground out a huge 2-1 win at Ibrox to return to the Scottish Premiership summit.

Rangers snatched a 2-1 win against the capital club but had to do it the hard way after Kevin Nisbet opened the scoring after just eight minutes.

A red card for Ryan Porteous made things a little easier, however, as the champions then had a full hour to find two goals against 10 men.

They turned up the pressure but it wasn't until the 60th minutes that substitute Kemar Roofe would grab an equaliser.

And with 12 minutes left, Alfredo Morelos nodded the home side in front.

It was a massive win - not least after rivals Celtic had won three points in their own successful smash-and-grab operation up at Aberdeen.

Hearts, too, had seen off Motherwell the previous day to momentarily steal top spot but with their Edinburgh rivals faltering in Govan they had slipped down to second by the end of the weekend.

Gerrard, meanwhile, was ecstatic as he turned to the Ibrox stands after Nick Walsh blew the final whistle.

The manager embraced his players before turning to the Broomloan and Copland Road stands in turn and giving it laldy in a post-match roar that was missing without supporters last term.

It was a sign of how crucial the victory was at a time when questions have been asked of his side's form and with such a huge build-up to the game.

Gerrard has displayed similar passion following other big wins in his Ibrox reign such as his first victory against Celtic in December 2018 and after they secured Europa League group stage football with a win over Legia Warsaw in his second season in charge.

And, perhaps with his beloved Liverpool's massive title clash against Manchester City on his mind, the boss then channeled his inner Diego Simeone as he sprinted down the tunnel.
