Steven Gerrard in playful Rangers dig at Alfredo Morelos over 'best coach in Scotland' verdict

Steven Gerrard has jokingly fired back at Alfredo Morelos after the Rangers striker wished his manager a happy birthday.

The Ibrox boss turned 41 on Sunday and his star striker marked the occasion with a message on social media.

Morelos posted a picture of the pair celebrating their Premiership title victory earlier in May on his official Instagram account.

And the Colombian captioned the tribute with a short message: "I want to wish a happy birthday to the best coach in Scotland"

Gerrard replied, initially, with a grateful response to his "amigo".

But the former Liverpool captain followed that up with a playful objection to the "best coach in Scotland tag".

He asked: "Just Scotland", "Europe? World?"

It appears Morelos remains in good spirits despite testing positive for Covid-19 while on international duty with Colombia.

The 24-year-old and national team Jose Rendon returned positive swabs during a round of testing earlier this week.

It's been reported, however, that Morelos is in good health during his self-isolation period.
