Steven Gerrard in Liverpool verdict as Rangers boss insists Anfield faithful 'don't want me'

Steven Gerrard insists Liverpool fans don't want him to manage the club - they want Jurgen Klopp to rediscover his golden touch.

The Rangers boss has responded to fierce speculation he could be the German's Anfield successor amid the Premier League champions' dismal defence of their title.

Gerrard wrapped up a first Premiership crown in 10 years to cement hero status at Ibrox and emphasised he's in absolutely no hurry to depart Glasgow.

He also believes Klopp deserves more respect and wants the Champions League-winning manager to turn things around.

Gerrard told ITV: "The Liverpool fans don't want me to be the manager of Liverpool Football Club. They want Jurgen Klopp to continue to be the Liverpool manager - and I'm totally with all of them!

"Liverpool is my club, I had a fantastic journey as a player. I'm doing a completely different career path, I'm happy in the role and job I'm in now.

"Is it a dream for me to one day be the Liverpool manager? Yes, it is. But not yet.

"And who's to say I'm ever going to be good enough or the owner's choice? There's a lot of fantastic managers that would all like the chance to manage Liverpool.

"But I think we need to respect the guy that's in charge, first and foremost, he's done an incredible job.

"He's took me to places in the last two or three years that have been incredible, the feeling.

"Me, my family and all the Liverpool supporters, I'm sure will back that up.

"So, for me, let's just all get behind Jurgen."
