Steven Gerrard in heartwarming Rangers gesture as Kevin Thomson thanks manager for fundraiser support

Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has thanked Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard for helping out with an inspiring charity fundraiser.

The title-winning boss joined Hibs kids Murray and Jackson on a 5km run as part of a push to raise cash for the Goodtrees Neighbourhood Community Centre in Moredun, Edinburgh.

The boys, who are both part of the East Mains youth setup, are aiming to complete a total of 300km over 30 days with the money going to a vital facility for underprivileged youth in a deprived area of the capital.

And they were given added motivation on Monday when Rangers boss Gerrard met the pair at the club's Auchenhowie complex and joined them on a jog.

Thomson, who often provides co-commentary on the club's matchday season ticket offering as well as running his own coaching school, was touched by the gesture.

He tweeted: "Amazing gesture from the manager doing a 5k run with the boys, excited to say the least, all the support for them has been brilliant, last push lads almost there!!"

The lads are on track to complete their goal this week and he added: "Any last support would be much appreciated."

Over £2,000 has been raised for the facility despite an initial target of £300 and donations are still open here.
