Steven Gerrard hints at Rangers chance for 'remorseful' Jordan Jones and George Edmundson after Covid breach

Steven Gerrard has hinted he is ready to give George Edmundson and Jordan Jones another chance at the club after a face-to-face meeting following their Covid breach.

The two players have been banned for seven games and had been suspended by the club after attending a party and being fined by Police last month.

Many felt it might be the end of the road for Jones and Edmundson, with both players on the fringes of the first team at Ibrox this season.

Jones had just worked his way back into the reckoning after missing a large chunk of last season with an injury suffered in an ill-judged tackle on Celtic loanee Moritz Bauer.

But Gerrard insists the reaction of both players when he spoke to them on their return to the training ground means he's ready to give them his full support moving forward at Rangers.

He said: "The important thing here was to get people out of their isolation period first and foremost, then it was to sit down with the players face-to-face and gauge a reaction to how they feel and where they were at at the time.

"I seen two players, I spoke to them individually. They were both very sad over the incident. They were remorseful and full of regret, they first and foremost wanted to apologise to the supporters and their team-mates for their actions.

"In my position, it was time to support these two players once I saw the reaction. It was the reaction I wanted to see, and now it’s about me giving them the support and managing them to get back to being top players because they’re good players.

"We need them here to help and support us moving forward, so they’ve gone about it in the right way since they accepted their punishment.

"We’ve been waiting for yesterday’s hearing as well, we’re pleased it’s done and out of the way and we’ll move forward and try and get the players back to where they need to be."
