Steven Gerrard has say on James Tavernier and Ryan Kent comments

Steven Gerrard has had his say on recent comments made by Rangers stars James Tavernier and Ryan Kent on the club's recent form.

Tavernier said in his programme notes that they were "not good enough" when teams are "smelling blood" and putting them under pressure.

Kent commented after the Braga victory last week that the players relish being the underdogs.

Eyebrows have been raised over both sets of comments, and when asked about it ahead of the weekend trip to Ross County, Gerrard said: "We're not always going to say the right things. From time to time my players, my staff and myself are going to get things wrong, especially in the heat of the moment. We're human beings. We're not perfect.

"The players in that dressing room are at a point in their careers when they are trying to learn and improve and grow, none of them are there.

"So I think they are going to get things wrong and make mistakes. But at the same time we're at a club where we're going to need protection at times. We need people to look out for us, and help us.

"There's things I've said during my career, since I've been manager here, that maybe I would have said different. Maybe I regret saying things, but I'm a human being. That's the way it is."
