Steven Gerrard hails Jordan Henderson and outlines pivotal moment in Liverpool captain's career

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Jordan Henderson after a fantastic season to date for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp's men lead the way at the top of the Premier League by 19 points with a game in hand ahead of facing West Ham tomorrow night.

Henderson has been one of the best players for Liverpool and he will be missed in the coming weeks after a hamstring injury he suffered in the 1-0 loss at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last week.

Former Liverpool star turned Rangers boss Gerrard has been speaking to the Mail on Sunday in an interview conducted by Danny Murphy and one of the topics of conversation was Henderson.

"We both know there are players who are "at it" every day. I appreciated Jordan's power and fitness by training with him," Gerrard told the Mail on Sunday.

"Some players play for themselves: Jordan does the dirty running, grappling for second balls, 12 or 13 kilometres Saturday and Wednesday, again and again.

"Teams can't function at Liverpool's level without a cog like Jordan Henderson. He's obviously going to be a Premier League winner. I look at him and think: good for you."

Gerrard then expanded further on Henderson and revealed that the midfielder once chatted with him about his worries at the club.

Liverpool's former captain explained that he attempted to alleviate the worries before admitting that Henderson has done a tremendous job to take his game to the next level.

"He has that confidence now. He has lifted the European Cup above his head. I don't deserve one iota of credit, he has done it all himself, but I remember a chat with Jordan in LA a while ago and he wasn't sure whether he was coming or going at the club," Gerrard added.

"I remember saying to him don't give up on Liverpool, you'll be fine. I knew what he had inside and that he would get there. You know with certain people."
