Steven Gerrard admitted Filip Helander’s injury doesn’t look good after the Swede was stretchered off against St Johnstone.
The central defender was forced off after an innocuous coming together with Michael O’Halloran, who had put the hosts 1-0 up.
Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier turned things round to send Rangers top of the Premiership table.
But Gerrard is now left sweating on the availability of Helander ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League Group A opener at home to Lyon.
The Light Blues will also be without Jack Simpson, who replaced Helander at McDiarmid Park, as the former Bournemouth man is not registered in the European squad.
“I’m concerned,” he said.
"He’s with the doctors now getting assessed and he’s got ice on his knee. He’s bandaged up and it doesn’t look good.
“But until we scan it and until we assess it in maybe 24 or 48 hours time, we’re not too sure. Fingers crossed he can come through but we’ve got other defenders who have to step up if he’s missing short, medium or long-term.”
Connor Goldson missed the win in Perth after being forced to self isolate.
Gerrard is hopeful he can at least have one half of his first choice defensive duo back for midweek, but admitted he’d have to check with his medical staff whether that is realistic.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m hoping he’s going to be available. We’ll have to wait and see and speak to the doctors. I’m not sure of the exact timeframe we’re looking at but hopefully we can have Connor back with us as well."
