The Tartan Army had a party at the weekend as Steve Clarke’s men kept the Qatar show on the road with the last gasp win against Israel.
But it doesn’t take long for the hangover to kick in and the doom and gloom merchants to hit back before a ball is kicked by Scotland on the cliffs in the Faroes on Tuesday night.
Jim McClean, Rothesay, said: “Here we go with all the hype once again. You would have thought Scotland have qualified for the World Cup. This is just to get into a play-off, and we are not exactly going to get through that easily.
“If we get through then we can celebrate something, but at the moment a better team would have been three up at half-time against us. Calm down please.”
Kevin Kean emailed: “We are getting carried away with the displays of Billy Gilmour in the 25 minute Highlights he got three mentions one for the non penalty, a free kick he took and a pass late on into the box how is he man of the match?”

Not everyone’s glass was half empty.
James Forsyth, Bellshill, said: “What a fighting performance by the team against a very good team. Pity about the booing of the National anthem and the Palestinian protest before the game. No need for racism or sectarianism in our sport.”
George Irvine emailed: “The team were brilliant second half and John McGinn’s goal was one of the best I’ve seen Scotland score.
“A mention should be given to Craig Gordon for a great save.
“There is no doubt the defence missed their great organiser in Grant Hanley. But how can Norwich be so low in the Premier League with him and Billy Gilmour in the team is a mystery.”
Scotland are in the spotlight but domestic issues are never far away and fans are still fighting about Steven Gerrard being linked to the Newcastle United job.
Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Given the cash heaviness of the Newcastle owners, why on earth would they even look at rookie manager Gerrard, who has won a single title in a two horse race?
“Newcastle will want a proven winner who has done it at the highest level.”
Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “You have to laugh at people claiming Gerrard is going to Newcastle. There’s no way he’d be a success in the Premier League without the backing he gets up here from refs.”
But Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “So one caller reckons Gerrard winning the league was a fluke?
“Has his fantastic European record over the last three years been a fluke also along with the fact Celtic haven’t beaten Rangers in two years?
“I’d rather have a 'fluked' title than one that was awarded by Peter Lawwell’s friends and a dodgy email vote.”
Andy Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “Caller Mr Styles says Gerrard has spent over £50million to win one trophy and he’s probably correct. But when was the last time Aberdeen won anything?
“I’d be willing to bet they’ve spent more than that since they won anything, so people in glass house...”
Finally, Tyson Fury’s epic win against Deontay Wilder at the weekend has seen the big fella hailed as one of the best ever.
But Stephen O’Donnell, Port Glasgow, said: “Greatest of all time? Do me a favour. Fury’s a good fighter and a lump of a man but Mike Tyson in his pomp would have put him down with no way up and Ali would have had him thinking he was on Strictly before going down with travel sickness.”
Let’s just hope Stephen’s namesake’s focus is on the Faroes rather than the fighting on Tuesday.
