Steven Gerrard fires Rangers 'no excuses' warning as he gears up for Celtic Scottish Cup showdown

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard told his stars there are "no excuses" ahead of the Scottish Cup tie with Celtic as he looks to lay down another marker.

The Ibrox side came out on top of a hard-fought game against Hibs to maintain their unbeaten run in the league.

But while being Premiership invincibles would be huge, an Old Firm clash in the Scottish Cup could be a road to a second piece of silverware.

And with six days to prepare for the match the Rangers manager expects his players to be raring to go in the derby.

Gerrard told Rangers TV: "We've had some really good training time, the players have got a good week building into it - both teams have.

"So there are certainly no excuses from a preparation point of view, we'll give the lads a day off tomorrow and then get to work.

"We'll prepare them, give them a game plan and have them ready for the weekend.

"It's a fantastic game, a really mouthwatering tie and one that we're really looking forward to.

"I was really pleased with a lot of our performance today but from my point of view it's important that we maintain standards for all of the first half and all of the second half because when you're coming up against better teams you might have more complications."

Rangers have won every league game at Ibrox this season but were made to sweat by an impressive Hibs side.

Gerrard said: "I thought for large periods of the game we were really strong, we deserved the win over the course of 90 minutes.

"First half hour of the game we played with a lot of control, a lot of style.

"Then I thought the last 15 minutes of the first half we didn't finish the half really well at all.

"We needed to reset that and second half again we came out strong, Ryan (Kent) has scored a world class goal to take it away from them but again we finished the second half a little bit open, a little bit passive.

"The final moments of the game became complicated on the back of that, but all-in-all a good win.

"Hibs are a good team, they've got good players and are well-drilled and set up well.

"I think you have to play really well to get a result from them so the boys deserve credit.

"But I think, going into next week, the final stages of the first half and the final stages of the second half we had to be much better and manage the game better."
