Steven Gerrard fires Rangers 'home truths' warning as he bemoans attacking quality

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told his players he'll deliver a few 'home truths' after their 1-0 defeat to Dundee United on Sunday afternoon.

The Ibrox side struggled to create any real clear cut chances with the best falling to Connor Goldson in the second half when he headed wide of the target.

It was poor defensively when Jamie Robson sneaked in and opened the scoring and Rangers will be frustrated on the bus journey back to Glasgow.

Alfredo Morelos was back for his first game of the season and although he had a decent chance in the first half, he never really got into the game enough.

It was similar for Ryan Kent who struggled to create and Gerrard was annoyed by the lack of quality in the final third as Rangers failed to score for the first time since a 0-0 draw with Livingston early last season.

But Gerrard has now vowed to reset after the defeat but will deliver some strong words to the players.

He told Sky Sports: "When you face a setback it's a chance to reset and give some people a few home truths and analyse.

"That's what you do as a manager but at the moment we've no time to feel sorry for ourselves or be too down, we've got to try pick this team up. We've got a massive game in three days time but we're going to need a higher performance to get that done.

"From our point of view it's not good enough. I don't think over the course of the 90 minutes we deserved to lose the game. But you always put yourself in that position if you don't go and score goals.

"Our quality and the chances we created today wasn't enough and while the game is at 0-0 there's always that risk that if you get a couple of things wrong that goal can come.

"The result and the performance is on me and my team and we have to accept that and move on quickly.

"I've got belief and confidence in all my attacking players that we can go anywhere and score goals, of course I have. But that's when they're at their best and when we show quality and force a breakthrough at places like this.

"Credit to Dundee United, they defended really well and so if we don't create enough and don't create clear cut chances that's on men and on us."
