Returning Nathan Patterson has been told to learn from his mistakes and stay focused on football after his goalscoring return to the Rangers team.
The full back was a half time sub and scored just 16 seconds after being introduced to go from zero to hero following his Covid-19 rule breach.
And Steven Gerrard insists it has to be a big learning curve for him but ruled out any prospect of the incident ruining his Ibrox career by insisting he deserves a second chance.
The Rangers manager was still visibly frustrated with what had happened but had given Patterson a big pat on the back at full time after he grabbed his first goal for the club.
He reckons his background and family life means he will learn from it but admits he's going to need to take further punishment which is likely to come from the SFA.
He said: "Quite a week. It should be the biggest learning curve of that boy’s career. He’s a fantastic kid, he comes from a lovely family and he needs to understand what the people from top to bottom of this club think of Nathan and the opportunity he’s got.
"He needs to learn from this and make sure it doesn’t happen again because you see tonight, he’s a wonderful footballer with a big future but as someone who has four kids myself, I want to be someone who gives second chances.
"As a human being I’ve made similar mistakes myself, I hope he’s took on board what we’ve said to him this week.
"He’s probably going to have to take a bit more punishment that comes his way, that goes for the three of them but it’s been a whirlwind week for him and hopefully that helps him in his development."
Patterson was a half time sub for Leon Balogun, who had been filling in at right back, and Gerrard revealed it was because of an injury the teenager was introduced.
But he hopes they've caught the quad problem early enough and he'll be back soon.
He added: "There’s a bit of a niggle in there with Leon’s quad muscle, which we’ll check out. I don’t think it’s too bad and we’ve done the safe thing.
"Leon is playing in a different position, it’s a different type of running getting up and down compared to when you’re playing in the middle as a centre back. It was a bit of precaution and listening to the player rather than making it worse and hopefully its days rather than weeks"
