Steven Gerrard discusses thoughts on leaving Liverpool and not playing for Jurgen Klopp

Steven Gerrard has admitted he still thinks about whether he left Liverpool a year early.

The Reds legend opted not to pen a one-year extension at Anfield in order to play for LA Galaxy in the MLS.

If he had stayed on Merseyside, he would have had the chance to play under Jurgen Klopp who replaced Brendan Rodgers just a few weeks into the following campaign.

And while he looks back on his Liverpool career fondly, he says he still wonders whether he should have put pen to paper on fresh terms.

He said: "I always have little thoughts - should I have stayed at Liverpool and signed the year extension?

"Would I have been able to have those cameos off the bench under Jurgen Klopp as a squad player.

"These things always cross my mind. I made decisions. I am proud of my Liverpool career and my managerial career and see where that journey takes me.

"You always have little moments, imagine I stayed at Liverpool a bit longer and got 15-20 minutes off the bench under Jurgen.

"Of course it has crossed my mind, I would have loved that."

Gerrard played for both sides as a Liverpool legends team took on their Rangers counterparts in a charity match at Ibrox on Saturday.

The former England midfielder is currently Rangers boss with the Gers sitting top of the Scottish Premiership after eight games, two points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic.
