Steven Gerrard delivers Rangers quip to Ross Wilson at Loving Cup ceremony

It seems Steven Gerrard is not only getting acclimatised to being Rangers manager but also the traditions at the club.

The Light Blues boss was in attendance, along with all the Ibrox directors, at the annual Loving Cup ceremony.

The club welcomed Scottish Cup opponents Stranraer on Friday night with it being their first home game of the New Year.

The Gers chiefs toasted the Queen by taking a drink of whisky out of the historic cup and it's an event they've hosted every year since coming into the possession of it in 1937.

22 English clubs in the first division were presented with one to celebrate the coronation of King George VI with Rangers being handed the one that was spare.

It was the first time Gerrard participated in the Loving Cup last year since arriving at the club in the summer of 2018. The manager's reaction after the tipple was memorable as he was clearly surprised with the strength of the whisky.

But he had a good laugh about it this time round as he was passed the cup to have a taste.

He joked to Ross Wilson, who was standing next to him: "Better than last year."

It was the first time Wilson took part in the tradition since arriving as Sporting Director at the end of last year.

But the Scot was clearly well accustomed to one of Scotland's renowned drinks unlike Gerrard 12 months ago.

He said: "Hmm, not bad."

On the pitch, Rangers took care of business to progress to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup after beating Stranraer 2-0, thanks to goals from Scott Arfield and Jermain Defoe.
