Steven Gerrard delighted at Rangers transfer intent as Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe join club

Steven Gerrard has pointed to Rangers ' statement of intent after the club announced two new signings in the same day.

Cedric Itten joined Kemar Roofe in arriving at Ibrox today. Both players will meet up with their new teammates after they return from Germany where they are taking on Bayer Leverkusen in their Europa League last-16 second leg.

Itten arrives from St Gallen with an impressive goalscoring pedigree, having netted 19 times in 34 matches in the Swiss Super League.

And Rangers manager Gerrard reckons Itten will be an excellent addition to his side.

He told the Rangers FC website : "Cedric is a goal scorer who will add further strength and depth to our squad.

"The fact we have announced two attacking options in the same day highlights our intent to bolster our squad as we begin the campaign.

"I am pleased that a player of Cedric’s ability and potential has decided to join Rangers as he embarks in the next stage of his career."

Sporting Director Ross Wilson revealed that the deal was actually tied up last week, but Rangers held off on annoucning the news until the Swiss season ended last night.

He said: "Cedric’s arrival is one that we are very pleased about. He is joining following an excellent season with St Gallen.

"His potential is high and we know he can be developed here at Rangers, working with our staff.

"This deal was agreed just over a week ago but with St Gallen in a title race and battle for European places we were respectful of that with the Swiss season only ending on Monday evening.

"We can all see that the transfer market has been quiet across Europe and we are operating in a market that’s not like any we have experienced before. Leagues are starting and finishing at different times and that means that players and clubs are all at different stages.

"Therefore, we are delighted to continue to move forward as we develop our squad with Cedric further enhancing our attack today.”

Kemar Roofe joined the club on a four year deal from Anderlecht earlier in the day, with Rangers fans "buzzing" at the news.
