Steven Gerrard defends Rangers stars as he questions missing 'spark' against Aberdeen

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has defended his players after his side suffered another post-winter break slip up in the title race.

The Light Blues were frustrated with a 0-0 stalemate against Aberdeen at Ibrox as they struggled to break down a stubborn Derek McInnes side.

The Ibrox manager admitted his men were missing a spark in the final third but refused to criticise Rangers' performance against the Dons.

He said: "I think as a whole there wasn't too much wrong with it through everything we had.

"I think we are missing a spark in the final third. Not just today, but over the four games since we came back.

"There seems to be a bit of a spark missing in our final third play.

"In saying that, we still had some big moments in the game. In the first half, down the right we had a 2v1 and Alfredo's got to find Ryan Kent to get a shot at goal. That was a big moment in the half.

"Then obviously Alfredo's chance, 99 times out of 100 he normally wins us the game in that situation.

"But I do feel like there is a spark missing in the final third. We are four points off the top, but that's not important unless we find our spark in the final third.

"Aberdeen had a couple of big moments as well, but I think that more came from us, individual errors that gifted them their opportunities.

"We threw everything at it, we tried to throw more at it from the side. There is more than enough talent for our 14 players to create more in the final third.

"We need to find our spark very quickly.

"These fans have been through a lot and they are desperate for it. Does it help if there is moans and groans? No it doesn't but we have to accept that and get on with that."
