Steven Gerrard calms Liverpool fans' fears as Rangers boss arrives for the Champions League Final

Steven Gerrard has arrived in Madrid ahead of the Champions League Final as gets set to cheer on his beloved Liverpool against Tottenham.

The Rangers boss had set the Anfield faithful into a mild panic earlier on Saturday when he took to social media to wish his nephew a happy birthday.

Gerrard signed off his message by saying "Have a boss day in Madrid kid", with many Liverpool fans worried their hero wouldn't be in attendance.

But the 39-year-old has allayed supporters' concerns by uploading a picture of him alongside Italian football legend Andrea Pirlo before the game.

Gerrard had been on holiday with his family earlier in the week and some speculated he would be giving the Final a miss but there was never going to be any chance of that.

The former Liverpool captain will be hoping Jordan Henderson can follow in his footsteps on Saturday and seal the Merseyside's sixth European Cup triumph.

Gerrard was the hero in 2005 as Rafa Benitez's side launched an improbable comeback to defeat Milan on penalties after a 3-3 draw, with Pirlo in Carlo Ancellotti's side.

The stage is set for another epic contest.
