Steven Gerrard blasts Scott Brown for 'provoking' Rangers stars in Old Firm derby

Steven Gerrard has slammed Celtic skipper Scott Brown following Rangers' Old Firm derby defeat.

10-man Rangers were beaten 2-1 at Parkhead despite an impressive second-half performance.

Odsonne Edouard had opened the scoring for the hosts before Rangers' task was made even harder when Alfredo Morelos was sent off.

The Colombian lashed out at Brown after a clash off the ball and was shown a red card for the fifth time this season.

Ryan Kent levelled the scores for Rangers and the Liverpool loanee was also involved in a bust-up with Brown after James Forrest's winner.

The ugly scenes continued after the final whistle as Andy Halliday took exception to Celtic's celebrations, sparking a melee on the pitch.

Rangers boss Gerrard said: "You're playing against a player who loves to antagonise. Morelos and Kent are both provoked

"Celtic fans have the right to celebrate but to do it right in your race, Halliday has the right to protect his own people.

"The guy who antagonised it all from the beginning deserves to be punished as well. When you're provoked, it's only fair that both sides get punished in my view.

"We've hurt ourselves badly this season with a lack of discipline. I've given my players the benefit of the doubt on too many times. Morelos has asked me for a chat, and that will be picked up."

Brown insisted the referee was left with little alternative but to send the striker off but played down his clash with Kent.

"He gave me an elbow, and you can't do that in modern-day football, the amount of cameras there are," the Celtic skipper added.

"It was all about us today. It's about our performance. We dictated play in the first half, and in the second we have to dig deep."
