Steven Gerrard and the Rangers glory that was 'predestined' as legendary publication gushes over Ibrox boss

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was "destined for greatness" when he took over at Ibrox, according to one prestigious football magazine.

The Liverpool legend had no experience when he was handed the job in the summer of 2018, and was coming up against a domestic juggernaut in Brendan Rodgers' Celtic.

Despite that the former midfielder has guided the Ibrox club to a first title in a decade, catching eyes across the globe as the Premiership was wrapped up with six games to go.

Guerin Sportivo is the oldest sports magazine in the world, having been founded in Turin in 1912.

And the Rangers boss has clearly impressed the prestigious publication, who have pinpointed him as a managerial natural.

They wrote: "Another turning point came in 2018 with the bombshell appointment of Steven Gerrard.

"A bombshell not only due to the fame of the former Liverpool and England leader, but also due to the fact it was his first ever role on the bench.

"In short, there are those who are just destined for greatness.

"For Gerrard there was a four year contract but few riches in the transfer market. In his era the most expensive signings have been those of Ryan Kent for £7million from Liverpool, Kemar Roofe at £5m from Anderlecht and Ianis Hagi for £3.5m from Genk.

"Nothing compared to the crazy fees - crazy by Scottish standards - of the Advocaat era at the turn of the millennium, with the likes of Van Bronckhorst, Numan, Flo, etc.

"What now? Gerrard's contract expires in 2024."
