Steven Gerrard admits Newcastle United target Alfredo Morelos could leave this summer

Ranger boss Steven Gerrard admits he is not sure whether Alfredo Morelos will remain at Ibrox next season.

The Colombian striker netted 29 goals in 46 appearances this campaign, and the Liverpool legend hopes to keep the 24-year-old at the club in a bid to prevent rivals Celtic lifting a tenth-straight title.

However, Morelos has attracted from a host of clubs England, Spain and Qatar. Newcastle United are among those credited with an interest in the striker.

Rangers value Morelos at about £20 million, and Ligue One outfit Rennes were recently linked with a £15m move for the forward.

Gerrard labelled the 24-year-old - who has often courted controversy throughout his time in Scotland with a number of red cards - as a "fantastic footballer".

However, the Rangers boss admits he can not confirm whether the striker will still be at Ibrox come the start of next season.

Gerrard told the Daily Record : “He scores goals in big volumes and I’m really looking forward to him getting match fit, up to speed and ready to play.

“But I suppose what you want me to say is, whether he will be here next year. That’s the million dollar question.

“I want all my best players here, I’ve said that many times.

“For us to be successful, we need our best players fit, available and out there on the pitch.

“But you and I know that every player has his price. Will we get bids for our best players? It’s quite possible.

“That’s something I can’t control, so it’s something we are just going to have to manage going forward.”
