Steven Gerrard addresses Rangers kit quirk as he delivers Jimmy Bell one-liner

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has joked kitman Jimmy Bell calls the shots at Ibrox as he discussed a strange quirk relating to this season's away kit.

The Gers have been impressive on the road this season, with some of their most dominant performances coming in their red third strip.

With a crucial fixture away to Celtic looming on Sunday, the Rangers boss was asked whether his side will be wearing the colour that's brought so much joy.

Gerrard said: "I don’t think we have had those big performances because we are wearing the red kit, I think it is because the players have gone and performed ever so well.

"I don’t decide what kit we wear but I can drag Jimmy Bell in if you want to ask him. He is the boss around here, not me."

Rangers have lost just one of their away fixtures this season, as they lost 2-1 to Young Boys in the Europa League .

They were wearing their blue home kit that night and in all but one of the away games they've failed to win this season they were in their home colours.

Draws with Progres Niederkorn, Legia Warsaw, Hearts, Feyenoord and Aberdeen all came in that shirt.

The only away match they've failed to win while wearing red was the 1-1 draw away to Porto in the Europa League - itself an important result.

The opening day win at Kilmarnock came in red, their first league win at Rugby Park since 2011.

Wearing red they've also beaten Midtjylland, St Johnstone, Ross County and Hibs by an aggregate scoreline of 15-2.

With that kind of record Jimmy Bell will surely have the red kits laid out for Sunday's top of the table clash with Celtic, arguably the biggest game of the season so far, especially after losing the Betfred Cup Final in blue.
