Update 18/5/21: Both the academy and police confirmed no further action would be taken. Full details here.
Police are investigating allegations that a member of staff at a football academy "behaved inappropriately' towards a student.
The ECHO understands the alleged incident occurred when the Steven Gerrard Academy employee gave the male student a lift home.
Complaints have been made to the academy itself, Liverpool County Football Association (LCFA), Liverpool Council's Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and Merseyside Police.
A spokesman for the academy said: "Steven Gerrard Academy is aware of an allegation and that allegation is under internal investigation and has been reported to the Liverpool Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), the Merseyside County FA and FA.
"For legal reasons no further comment will be made while the investigation is ongoing."
The academy, which started life as Liverpool Football College, provides sports qualifications for students aged between 16 and 19.
It took the name of the Liverpool FC legend last year after partnering with sports education provider LLS.
There is no indication that the Rangers manager was made aware of the allegation and Mr Gerrard does not have a day-to-day role in the running of the academy.
Liverpool County FA chief executive, Daniel Green, said he could not comment on the allegation but stressed LCFA has "robust safeguarding measures in place".
A spokesman for Merseyside Police told the ECHO: "We have been made aware of a third party allegation of inappropriate behaviour in the Liverpool area.
"Our enquiries are at an early stage but we take all reports of such behaviour extremely seriously and, along with partner agencies, will investigate them thoroughly."
Liverpool Council, who also received information about the alleged incident, said: "A safeguarding concern has been raised with the council.
"All concerns we receive are taken seriously and the concern is now being discussed with the academy."
Steven Gerrard Academy, based in Wyncote Sports Ground, Mossley Hill, did not confirm whether or not the staff member has been suspended or has left the organisation.
