Steven Gerrard abruptly interrupted interview to challenge Jurgen Klopp suggestion

Steven Gerrard abruptly interrupted an interview to explain what Jurgen Klopp means to Liverpool fans - and supporters of the Anfield club loved it.

Gerrard recently guided Rangers to a first Scottish title in 10 years and has found himself linked with the Liverpool job as a result.

Klopp is currently struggling to get results at Liverpool, who are out of the title race and seven points behind the Champions League spots.

Gerrard was interviewed on Tuesday and asked about his future.

But before the question could even be asked, Gerrard challenged the suggestion he's the right man to take over from Klopp at this very moment, saying Liverpool fans don't want that.

The question began: "There are a lot of Liverpool fans watching your success..."

Gerrard interrupted, responding: "The Liverpool fans don't want me to be the manager of Liverpool Football Club. They want Jurgen Klopp to continue to be the Liverpool manager - and I'm totally with all of them.

"We shouldn't talk about this, we have one of the best managers leading our club at the minute, I love him.

"I hope he stays for a few more years. But I've got a job here. I don't think it's helpful to talk about this and I hope Jurgen stays at Liverpool for many years."

Gerrard's response went down well among Liverpool supporters, with many agreeing with the former Reds captain's assessment.

One Liverpool fan tweeted: "Couldn't have said it better myself," while another added: "Absolutely adore Gerrard's words in his interview with ITV. My legend."
