Steven Fletcher transfer latest as Celtic target nears English Championship switch

Scotland striker Steven Fletcher will join Stoke City after talks broke down over a move to Celtic.

Neil Lennon had discussed a move with the former Hibs frontman but after signing Albian Ajeti in a £5million deal from West Ham, decided against a move for Fletcher.

And now he'll complete a deal to join Stoke, where he's likely to be unveiled later this afternoon.

The Stoke Sentinel report that Michael O'Neill will make him their third signing of the summer.

Stoke had been trying to sign Kieffer Moore from Wigan but the Welshman decided to join Cardiff instead.

Fletcher, who began his career with Hibs before moves to Burnley,Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sunderland and Marseille, spent four years with Sheffield Wednesday after leaving the Stadium of Light.

He scored 13 goals in 30 appearances last season as Wednesday finished 16th in the Championship table.

The 33-year-old has also made 33 appearances for Scotland, scoring 10 goals since making his debut in a friendly with Croatia in 2008.
